LaSalette and Ecology
Restoring The Integrity of Creation

The LaSalette Event
…occurred high in the French Alps, on a warm sunny day in the vicinity of the village called LaSalette. Mary, the Mother of God, appeared to two young cowherds, Melanie Mathieu and Maximin Giraud, and entrusted a heavenly message to them. It was a call to reconciliation for the whole world. Mary calls for a change of heart; if this happens, the world of nature will respond with unforeseen fruitfulness and abundance. In so doing, Mary points to the unity and integrity of all Creation and challenges humanity to recognize its communion with all beings. Reconciliation is then to happen not only between people and with God, but also within the entire Creation.
….And Ecology
Reconciliation among the human family and with God is the necessary condition for “coming home to the Earth”. Our planet is being victimized by the abuse humanity is heaping upon it: pollution of water and air, devastation of forests, and poisoning of the land are the results of greed and selfishness. Our ecological challenge is to once again recognize that the Earth is our home and to become aware of our place within the family of Creation not above or apart from it.
